Day 4 Mount Timpanogos Summit Video
Day 4 and still smoke free and did a summit up Mount Timpanogos with Bubby and Sam, took us about 8.5 hours with no trail running….bummer!
On the way I did get some great photos of the Big Horn Sheep that live up there. What I have heard is they weren’t always there but brought in from Wyoming or maybe it was Montana but my point is they really don’t belong there, the ones on Nebo are gray not white like theses.
Mount Timpanogos is the second highest mountain in Utah’s Wasatch Range (second to Mount Nebo). Timpanogos rises to an elevation of 11,749 feet (3,582 m) above sea level in the Uinta National Forest (now part of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest). With 5,269 feet of topographic prominence, Timpanogos is the 47th-most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States.
The mountain towers over Utah Valley, including the cities of Lehi, Provo, Orem, Pleasant Grove, American Fork, Lindon and others. The exposed portion of the mountain is made up entirely of limestone and dolomite from the Pennsylvanian period, and is about 300 million years old. Heavy winter snowfall is characteristic of this portion of the Wasatch Range, and avalanche activity is common in winter and spring.
The word Timpanogos comes from the Timpanogots Ute tribe who lived in the surrounding valleys from A.D. 1400. The name translates as rock (tumpi-), and water mouth or canyon (panogos).

Mt. Nebo Summit Trail Run Video
Length: About 9 miles out and back
Difficulty: Strenuous
Description: At 11928 feet, Nebo is the highest of the Wasatch peaks. (It is some 179 feet higher than the more famous Mt Timpanogos.)
This started out as a trail run but soon it became evident that the elevation was going to slow me down fast! The first few miles went just fine but soon Sam and I were going up some of the steepest switchbacks I have ever seen. This mountain is tall at 11928 feet, Nebo is the highest of the Wasatch peaks but is worth the hell you get in climbing it. As I moved up the switchbacks along the ridge I kept wondering just where this trail was going and what peek I was headed for. Along the way I saw some pretty cool things from a Big Horn Sheep to Eagle and lot’s of deer. This run/hike took a lot out of me and kept me wondering if I wasn’t in over my head. The air started to thin out and my heart rate shot up and was pounding away in my chest. If you watch the video I’m pushing for the summit and you can see how incredibly steep it is!
When I finely reach the top it was an amazing moment, I took a moment to open the box that is there and read some of the past entries and even wrote my own. It took me 2:45 min to reach the top and about 2 hours down, on the way down I was able to run on most the trail but the upper shale area is pretty tricky and I had to take my time and be careful.
I did get video and for more check out my Video Blog.

Blackhawk Trail Video
Today I took Samantha and went out to the Nebo Loop in Payson Canyon parked at the Loafer Mountain T railhead and hooked on to the Blackhawk Trail. I only had four hours of light left so I had to keep on the pedal as much as I could.
I did take time out every 15 min to take some video and photos. During the first 45 min when I went to take a little video I noticed my camera was gone, yea missing in action is the word. So I had to track back 15 min on the trail and find it and I did laying lens down in a small spring where it bounced out of my back shirt pocket.
Everything seemed to be ok so I wiped it off and got going, this caused me to loose 30 min so I had to push it a bit to keep it going. I had a light in my pack so I wasn’t to worried about the time. This is a tough ride to do but worth it in the long run!
