Have you ever hurt your knee while you were on the slopes?
We hope your answer is “no”.
If you have hurt your knee while skiing, or at least have seen someone injure their knee then you will lean more about what happens in these injuries in this article.
When a person gets into an accident on the slopes and it involves their knee, chances are that this person has injured either their MCL (Medial collateral ligament) or your ACL (Anterior cruciate ligament). Knee swelling can result with this kind of injury, and if left untreated this can be a real problem. We will give you some useful information here regarding these two knee injuries; describing how they can occur and some ways to help avoid a knee injury occurrence.
Medial Collateral Ligament Sprains
A MCL injury is the most common type of alpine ski injury. It accounts for nearly one quarter (1/4) of all injuries in this sport. Usually, it will affect the beginner and low-intermediate skier.
Often times, people suffer an MCL injury while in the beginner’s snowplough position. This means that the front of the skis are pointing toward each other. (The technical term for this in the medical field is that your legs are in “valgus”.) Essentially, when their is too much valgus force being applied to your knee joint an MCL injury can occur. If your skis criss cross awkwardly, or the snowplough stance develops into a fall, this could be the force needed to cause the MCL injury.
If you have a grade one or two sprain, many times a person will be placed into a splint that holds their leg(s) in extension. These will be worn, at least until the pain and swelling diminish. A grade three tear may require surgical repair and the use of a substantial knee brace to help provide support.
If you wish to prevent such an occurrence, it is a good idea to to do some preseason conditioning. Strengthening your quadriceps will help prevent an MCL injury. Strengthening workouts should always be coordinated with the guidance of a health care professional. Performing maintenance for correct binding and release settings are suggested.
Pass The Butter Please
Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings..
DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter?
- Both have the same amount of calories.
- Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine.
- Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
- Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added!
- Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.
- Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years .
And now, for Margarine.
- Very High in Trans fatty acids.
- Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
- Triples risk of coronary heart disease .
- Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
- Increases the risk of cancers up to five times.

My Trip to Indy
Well again, it’s been awhile since I have posted. I have been working hard. My job takes me to some cools places, like St. George Utah for the American Fork to band state finals and the Bands of America Regionals. They took state and first in the regionals, was a great trip.
So after we all got back to AF everyone started talking about Nationals in Indianapolis. They had not planned to go but after one of their teachers got killed on one of the trips(Heather Christenson), they decided to try to raise the money. They had about 48 hours to raise $250,000. It was a tremendous undertaking but some how they pulled it off, and we loaded up and left for Indy.
My company pulls the band trailer for them as a charity thing, one of the owners Luke Savage was a great supporter of the AF Band. So me and my wife who works for same company team drove the equipment out to Indy. It took us 24 hours of drive time. Where we spent the night in Lincoln Nebraska. Slept for 5 hours and kept going. When we got to Indy, I had no idea that they would put us up in the Embassy Suites. This place was freaking awesome.
Are You Guilty Of Trying To “BUY” Happiness?
So you see……it isn’t how much money we spend on decorating for the holidays and having big dinners and buying, buying, buying. The story of happiness follows……are you guilty of trying to “buy” happiness?? Now go do your life the RIGHT way!!
“The days turn into weeks, the weeks into months and the months into years. Did God make time to keep it from all happening at once?” The late Mickey Newberry wrote those words, and yes, God did make time to keep it from all happening at once.
November is a great month to prepare for the hustle and bustle of December, a month of thanksgiving. It is an opportunity to examine our lives and point out all the things in life we have to be thankful for. It is a month of service and gratitude, not big gluttonous dinners and behaviors. There is a great story about a young orphan girl who had no family or anyone to love her. One day, feeling exceptionally sad and lonely, she was walking through a meadow when she noticed a small butterfly caught in a thorn bush. There was absolutely no way the butterfly could escape. The more it struggled to free itself, the deeper the thorns cut into its fragile body.
The young orphan girl carefully released the butterfly from its captivity and sure death. Instead of flying away, however, the little butterfly changed into a beautiful good fairy. The young girl rubbed her eyes in disbelief. “For your wonderful kindness,” the good fairy said to the little girl, “I will grant you any wish you would like.” The girl thought for a moment and then replied, “I want to be happy!”
